VeryNile is a social enterprise tackling plastic pollution in the Nile by mobilising local communities to collect and upcycle waste. Based on Qursaya Island in Cairo, the initiative engages local fishermen to clean the river, offering fair wages and social services in return. The collected plastic is repurposed into sustainable products created by women, supporting both environmental conservation and job creation. VeryNile received funding and training through Alfanar’s accelerator programme to strengthen its operations and scale its impact across Egypt.
