We are pleased to announce the appointment of Safia Tmiri as the new Executive Director of Alfanar Venture Philanthropy, effective 1 October, 2024. 

Safia will succeed Myrna Atalla, who has led the organisation with dedication and passion for the past 14 years.

"Myrna's infinite energy, imagination, humour, and leadership have been instrumental in shaping Alfanar into the organisation it is today," said Alfanar Chair, Lubna Olayan. 

Safia brings with her a wealth of experience from her work in the social impact sector, supporting various entities across the Middle East. Safia began her career in investment banking, before moving into development finance with the IFC and then World Bank. She joined McKinsey in 2016, initially as a generalist consultant, before progressing to associate partner. In that position she led the creation of the social impact practice focusing on social enterprises in the Middle East; the role covered strategic advisory and investment and finance consulting. She left McKinsey late last year to pursue an opportunity in the non-profit sector. 

"Safia brings an incredible set of attributes to Alfanar: deep experience in the social impact space, proven leadership skills, and a passion for driving positive change across the Middle East," said Alfanar Chair, Lubna Olayan.
